DOG CHOIR
“Just as we walk with, sleep with and play with our dogs, maybe we could sing with our dogs?”
DOG CHOIR is a musical workshop-performance for dogs and people facilitated and created by Solomon Frank as part of his PhD research at University of Sydney. The projects platforms performances by human-dog duos presenting musical pieces that showcase their unique interspecies musical practices as well his work Dog Choir, a participatory group improvisation for dogs and their people.
Solomon Frank's PhD explores canine musicality and interspecies collaboration. He has been documenting, creating and writing about canine-human musical practices that challenge notions of the human uniqueness of music. Dog choir is the culmination of his fieldwork, and features some of the dogs and people heworked with, interviewed and wrote about throughout the project.
Solomon has presented versions of this work at Canberra International Music Festival (2022), Bondi Festival (2023) and at Art Farm Birchs Bay Tasmania (2024).
